Sheet metal manufacturing is a comprehensive processing technology for sheet metal (usually less than 6mm in thickness). Through a series of processes such as cutting, bending, stamping, welding and surface treatment, the flat sheet metal is processed into various parts with complex shapes and high precision requirements. These parts play a key role in the structural composition of various products. What is sheet metal manufacturing?

Sheet metal manufacturing is a comprehensive processing technology for sheet metal (usually less than 6mm in thickness). Through a series of processes such as cutting, bending, stamping, welding and surface treatment, the flat sheet metal is processed into various parts with complex shapes and high precision requirements. These parts play a key role in the structural composition of various products. Such as the shell of the car body, the chassis of the electronic equipment, etc., are typical products of sheet metal manufacturing.

Cutting method

Laser cutting:Laser cutting uses a laser beam with high energy density to focus on the surface of the metal sheet, so that the material instantly melts or vaporizes, and at the same time, the slag is blown away by the auxiliary gas, so as to achieve the cutting of the sheet. Its advantage is that the cutting accuracy is high, up to ±0.1mm or even higher, the cutting surface is smooth, the heat affected zone is small, it can cut various complex shapes, and the processing efficiency is high for thin plates (0.5-6mm).

Water jet cutting:water jet cutting is through ultra-high pressure water flow (pressure up to 300-600MPa) carrying abrasive (such as garnet sand) to the metal plate for erosion cutting. Its advantage is that there is no thermal deformation in the cutting process, it can cut any material, including metal, stone, glass, etc., the incision quality is good, and the cutting thickness range is wide (from a few millimeters to tens of centimeters).

Plasma cutting:Plasma cutting is the use of high temperature plasma arc (temperature up to 10,000-30,000 ° C) to melt and blow away the metal sheet to complete the cutting. It has the advantages of fast cutting speed, especially for medium and thick plates (3-30mm), relatively low equipment cost, easy operation and so on.

The molding process

Bending:bending is the process of applying pressure to the sheet metal through a bending machine to bend it in accordance with a predetermined Angle and size. When operating, the appropriate mold and bending process parameters, such as pressure and bending speed, should be selected according to the material, thickness and bending Angle of the plate. Its advantage is that it can achieve accurate Angle control and can mass produce bending parts with regular shape.

Stamping:stamping is the use of stamping die and stamping equipment to apply pressure to the metal sheet, so that the sheet plastic deformation, so as to obtain the required shape and size of the parts. Stamping process can be divided into punching, blanking, drawing, bending and other forms, high production efficiency, suitable for large-scale production, can process complex shapes and high precision parts.

Welding method

Laser welding:Laser welding uses a focused laser beam as a heat source to quickly melt and solidify the joint of the metal sheet. The welding seam is narrow, the heat affected zone is very small, the welding deformation is small, the welding speed is fast, and the high-precision welding can be achieved. It is suitable for the occasions with high welding quality and appearance requirements, such as the metal parts connection inside precision instruments and electronic equipment.

Argon arc welding:Argon arc welding is the use of argon as a shielding gas, through the tungsten electrode or melting electrode arc heated metal plate to melt welding. Excellent weld quality, can weld a variety of metal materials, especially stainless steel, aluminum alloy, welding process is stable, easy to operate.

Spot welding:Spot welding is to assemble the welded part into a lap joint, and press it between two columnar electrodes, and use resistance heat to melt the base metal to form a solder joint. It has fast welding speed, no need to fill materials, high degree of automation, suitable for large-scale production of thin plate connection.

Metal surface treatment

Polishing:polishing Through the use of polishing wheels, polishing paste and other tools to grind the metal surface, reduce the surface roughness, so that the metal surface appears bright as a mirror effect. It can improve the appearance quality and corrosion resistance of the metal, divided into mechanical polishing, chemical polishing and electrolytic polishing and other ways.

Anodizing:anodizing involves placing a metal in an electrolyte as an anode and forming an oxide film on the surface of the metal through electrolysis. This layer of oxide film has good wear resistance, corrosion resistance and decorative, can be dyed in different colors according to demand.

Spray:spraying is to spray the paint evenly on the metal surface after atomizing through the spray gun to form a protective film. Various types of coatings can provide different protective properties (such as corrosion prevention, fire prevention, insulation, etc.) and appearance effects (color, gloss, etc.), easy to operate, relatively low cost, suitable for surface protection and decoration of various metal products, such as mechanical equipment shell, outdoor metal facilities, etc.

Eectroplate:electroplating is the use of the principle of electrolysis, deposit a layer of other metals or alloys on the surface of the metal to improve the surface properties of the metal, such as improving hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, etc., common galvanized, chromium plated, nickel plated and so on. The coating is uniform and dense, and can accurately control the thickness and composition of the coating, which is widely used in auto parts, hardware and bathroom products.

Sheet metal manufacturing applications
Automobile manufacturing: body structural parts such as girders, pillars, to provide strength support; Covering parts like engine cover and door, both beautiful and protective.

Electronic equipment:computer case shell, bracket, radiator.

Aerospace: fuselage frame, wing skin to reduce weight, withstand stress; The engine inlet and other components meet extreme conditions such as high temperature.

Daily necessities: kitchen appliance shell and interior parts, furniture frame, practical and beautiful.

Communication industry: communication cabinet protection equipment, antenna shell protection antenna, to ensure signal transmission.
